Brainstorming Ideas
Reference Photos and Compositional Sketches Progress Photos Final Product Reflection I chose the umbrellas over San Juan because it was one of my favorite parts of Puerto Rico. The umbrellas where installed after hurricane Maria. They represent not only as shelter from the rain or the sun, but the vibrancy and life of San Juan and Puerto Rican Culture.
The collage itself could've been neater, and I could've done some more planning, definitely.

Compositional Sketch and Reference Progress Photos Finished Reflection 1. What watercolor/colored pencil techniques proved to be effective in your painting/drawing? How and Why?
I think not using a lot of pressure on the pencil when I started coloring was helpful because it allowed me to use a guide for the color. Also sketching the tomato using a light colored pencil worked out well because I didn't have any graphite marks to erase. 2. How important was using transparent layers (just layers for colored pencil) in your painting/drawing? Adding layers was actually really important because it helped to build up the color of the drawing. The more layers I added the brighter and more vibrant the colors became. 3. Explain how your composition was successful? Did you utilize all the elements of art and principles of design? Explain. I think the values and vibrancy of the drawing really added life to it. I tried to add depth to the picture by shading the background to make it seem like the tomato was more three dimensional. 4. Was color choice an important factor in the overall success of the painting/drawing? Why? Yes it was. I think I should have used darker oranges and reds because the original photo was darker and it was harder to replicate using lighter colors. 5. How did you use your knowledge of Georgia O’Keeffe as inspiration for this piece? I tried not to make the tomato as realistic as I could since she liked making things look a little more abstract than reality. 6. Describe your craftsmanship. This is probably the project I'm most proud of from this year. I actually had a lot of fun with it and that fact alone made the piece come out better than I had expected. 7. If you were an art critic how would you judge your work? I would definitely be a lot harsher on myself if I was looking at this as an art critic. 8. If you were able to do something different what would it be and why? I would chose darker colors because I think I would have been able to do a lot more with the colors and the depth of the drawing. 9. Explain to me what you have learned about watercolor/colored pencil and how it has improved or discouraged your development in art. I figured out how to use and have fun with colored pencils during this project and I will be playing around with them more often from now on. I didn't know how to use them properly before, but now that I do I want to use them more often. We were to watch four videos on one and two point perspective and follow along with the tutorial. One Point:Two Point:Our task was to take mundane and overlooked areas of our lives and to draw it. The pictures above are my compositional sketches, or the ideas I had for this project. I ended up choosing the clothes on hangers for this project...
One of our assignments was to practice creating value by making a value chart and then drawing 3-D shapes
This week we learned about contour drawing. Our first assignment was to do four contour drawings: two in pen, two in pencil, two natural objects and two man-made objects. Our second task was to do two twenty minute contour drawings: One in pen and one in pencil.
